Cost of Discipleship
Authority of Jesus / Lent week 5
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? How does this really impact our lives? In the passage for this reflection, we see that following Jesus is not an easy path. It is a costly one. And we have to choose whether we truly want to submit completely to Jesus’ authority or whether we’d rather continue living life our own way. Are we willing to recognise God’s authority over our lives? Read more

Over Sickness
Authority of Jesus / Lent week 4
Jesus demonstrates His authority over illness and disease as He works miracles in the lives of the man with leprosy, the servant of the centurion and Peter’s mother-in-law. What can we learnt about Jesus and about ourselves as we reflect upon the interactions that Jesus had with these people? How can we allow God to work in our lives? Matthew 8:1-17

Wise and Foolish
Authority of Jesus / Lent week 3
The wise man built his house upon the rock…The foolish man built his house upon the sand. This parable may seem simplistic, but it teaches us some really important truths that we need to pay attention to. Are you wise or are you foolish? Will you listen to Jesus’ teachings and follow what He says or will you continue to follow your own path? Let us consider Jesus’ words, and like the crowd gathered around Him, let us be amazed at His teaching because He taught with authority. Read more

The Two Paths
Authority of Jesus / Lent week 2
Jesus gives us some difficult teaching in this passage. He explains to us that there are only two paths in life - the path to destruction and the path to life. What path are you on? Let us listen to Jesus’ words and consider how we can ensure we are travelling on the narrow path to life. Matthew 7:13-23 Romans 3:23 Luke 9:23 Daniel 2:22

From Divided Loyalties to Committed Faith
The Life of Elijah / 3
Elijah meets with Ahab and his prophets for an epic showdown, and battle of the gods. And the Israelites gather around to watch this face-off. Elijah questions the Israelites: “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” God issues this question to us too. How long will you waver between two opinions? Where does your loyalty lie? Read more

Elijah: From Fear to Hope
The Life of Elijah / 2
The story of Elijah continues, and we see how God calls Elijah out of hiding to send him to Ahab, to tell him that God is going to send rain to the land. We also meet the character of Obadiah, and see how God used his position in the court of Ahab, and his devout faith to protect 100 prophets from Jezebel’s murderous wrath. God used both Elijah and Obadiah to bring hope out of fear, but He did so in different ways. Read more

Why are you here?
Happy New Year! It is the first Sunday of 2024. So often at the beginning of a new year, we spend time reflecting and remaking ourselves. We do this physically, by starting new diets, giving up alcohol, meat or other things, we make resolutions to do more exercise, and the number of gym memberships rapidly increase. But what about spiritually? How can we reflect and refresh our spiritual lives? Well, lets start with some reflection. Read more
