The Holy Spirit Gives Direction
We continue our focus on the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost as we continue following the story. And as we do, we ask ourselves how is the Holy Spirit working today in our lives? This week we think about the way in which the Spirit empowers and directs, giving visions and dreams, causing us to prophesy and speak out the words of God. What is God showing you? What dreams and visions does He give you? Read more

The Coming of the Holy Spirit
Pentecost
It is Pentecost! The day that we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, coming down upon the disciples with power - the sound of rushing wind, tongues of fire resting on their heads. We celebrate today because God dwells with us and God dwells within us! But what does that actually mean for us? How does the presence of the Holy Spirit affect us, transform us and equip us for what God calls us to? Read more

Us: Loving with God’s Love
The Four Degrees of Love / 4
As we finish our series on Bernard of Clairvaux’s Four Degrees of Love, we end with the final degree which talks about becoming so consumed by love of God that we lose a sense of our own selfish desires and agendas. Instead we become connected to God’s will. His plans become our plans; His love our love. This overwhelming sense of connection to God may only last a few blissful moments, but we can use it to motivate and empower us to live lives defined by love in the every day moments. Read more

You: Loving God for God’s Sake
The Four Degrees of Love / 3
What does it mean to love God for God’s sake? How can we develop an unselfish love of God? We consider one of David’s psalms, psalm 63, as we explore what it looks like to love God without focusing on ourselves. In doing so, we pick out some important points to help us develop our own love for God. How do you love God? Do you want to love Him more, to have a deeper connection with Him? Read more

My: Loving God for Self’s Sake
The Four Degrees of Love / 2
We continue looking at the Four Degrees of Love as explained by theologian Bernard of Clairvaux. And as we look at each of these degrees of love, we consider how understanding more about the way we love can help us grow in faith and our relationship with God. This week we consider the second degree of love, which loves God but for the self’s sake. Explore with us what this means, and how this affects our relationship with God and others. Read more

Me: An Excess of Self Love
The Four Degrees of Love / 1
We have reminded ourselves that the Resurrection changes lives, but how are our lives changing? How can we know that we are growing spiritually? One of the measures of spiritual growth is a growth in love. Bernard of Clairvaux wrote a treatise “Of Loving God”, which spoke of the four degrees of love. In this time between Easter and Pentecost, let us consider our love, and question ourselves about which stage or degree of love we are in. Read more

Resurrection - The Life Changing Truth: Emmaus Road
Last week we celebrated Easter, the resurrection of Jesus. But now a week on, does Easter still change your life? Has the resurrection of Jesus transformed your life forever? For the disciples on the Emmaus Road, they didn’t believe that Jesus was alive again at first. But once they did, their lives were changed as their mourning was turned to dancing, their hearts set on fire for the purposes of God and they rushed to tell the others what had happened. Read more
