During the season of Advent, we will be using the Archbishop of York’s Advent Book for 2025: Listening to the Music of the Soul by Guli Francis-Dehqani.
We consider the contentious topic of immigration and migration and what the Nativity story can teach us about how we handle this topic.
Luke 1: 46-55 John 1:46
All quotes below are from: Guli Francis-Dehqani, Listening to the Music of the Soul: The Archbishop of York’s Advent Book 2025 “They might have been scavengers, trying to sponge off the goodness of others, seeking to take shelter and resources that rightfully belonged to the locals”
“movingly convey that blessings come when we open our arms to those we do not know.”
“very little separates ‘us’ from ’them’: only a handful of circumstances, an accident of birth, a twist of fate in the arena of international geo-politics.”
“Two millennia later, during the most recent conflict between Israel and Palestine, many Gazans found themselves doing exactly the same. With so many countries refusing to open their doors, those who were able sought, by any means they could, to find shelter and safety across the border in Egypt.”
“The warmth of welcome and friendship experienced, and having the opportunity to contribute and find a sense of purpose.”
