God is in the Valley of Shame (Part 2)
God is in the Valleys / 5
We continue looking at the overall theme of God is in the Valley. And this week we think about God being in the Valley of shame, the shame that comes not from sin but other sources. The shame that doesn’t help us stay close to God but instead destroys us
Shame can become an overwhelming emotion that begins to try to define who we are. This shame can come from comparing ourselves to others and finding ourselves ’lacking’. It says that we are not enough - not good enough, not smart enough, not attractive enough etc. But God tells us that this isn’t true. He tells us that comparing ourselves to others will only harm us because we are not listening to the truth about what God says to us. God tells us that we are precious and valuable and loved beyond anything we can ever know.
Shame can also come because of things that happen to us. Sometimes horrific events cause us to hate ourselves and be full of shame. But God wants to redeem and restore you. He wants to lift you out of your shame and bring you freedom. Jesus came to bring freedom for captives and release from darkness for prisoners, and that includes those who are chained by shame, who are locked up by shame from things that have happened. God has set you free. Reach out your hand to find His, waiting to lift you from the valley of shame.
Trigger Warning: This video mentions the horrific topics of rape and abuse and we read about the rape of Dinah, daughter of Jacob, found in Genesis. If these topics are difficult and triggering for you, please consider carefully if you want to watch the video, and please talk to someone if you need help.
